Imagine the house elves were not elves. Imagine they were black. Imagine that the wizards were not wizards. Imagine they are all white humans. Now tell me again that what JK Rowling wrote was fine.

What JKR quote was fine because it seems authentic. You can’t expect an author to write a perfect world. She wrote in slavery of elves and as the series progressed she showed how they had started getting freedom and how people like Hermione was trying to help them out.

JK Rowling literally made one of the house elves have an emotional breakdown and become an alcoholic when Hermione freed her and portrayed her freeing as a bad thing in the context of the narrative.

It was not done well at all.

It’s a natural consequence. I guess you can say that it’s a form of Stockholm syndrome(I’m not an expert on the topic but from what I’ve read, the elves react in a similar way). It didn’t show that freedom from slavery is bad. It showed that the victims of slavery have a tough time accepting something as normal as freedom because they have been living the horrible system for decades.
